距离与融通:交际术语学视角下《老残游记》译本中称谓礼俗术语英译研究

摘要 《老残游记》是晚清四大谴责小说之一,其译介史已逾百年,国内外译本繁多,引发学界广泛关注。本研究以美国学者哈罗德·沙迪克(Harold Shadick)全译本语料为基础,以交际术语学理论为参照,从术语翻译中的三种“距离”出发,考察译者在文化、语言及交际语境中称谓礼俗术语的英译策略。研究表明,沙迪克译文不仅考虑了术语本身的属性,而且兼顾了文化、语言及交际因素,融合采用对等、隐化、显化、音译等翻译策略,最大限度保证了源语术语与目标术语的对应,体现了鲜明的融通取向。交际术语学下的礼俗术语英译研究对中国传统文化外译提供启示,对国际传播话语的建构提供思考。 As one of the four satirical novels in the late Qing Dynasty,The Travels of Lao Can has been translated over the past one hundred years by many translators at home and abroad,drawing considerable attention of researchers.This study,based on the corpus analysis of the full translation by American scholar Harold Shadick,under the guidance of Communicative Terminology Theory,explores the English translation strategies of appellation etiquette and custom terms from dimensions of cultural,linguistic,and communicative contexts by referring to the three“distances”in terminology translation.Observations reveal that Shadick’s translation choices not only take into account the nature of the terms,but also cultural,linguistic and communicative factors,adopting translation strategies of equivalence,implicitation,explicitation and transliteration to ensure the maximum correspondence between the source term and the target term,reflecting a distinctive integration orientation.The research on the English translation of appellation etiquette and custom terms under Communicative Terminology provides insights into the translation of Chinese traditional culture,and invites further reflections on the construction of international communication discourse.
