In Elizabeth Bishop's mid-late poems, the idea of home is represented diversely in a biographical imagination of home nourished by the experience of living in different geographical and cultural environments. In her middle age when living in Brazil,Bishop casts her home-searching gaze to her motherland across the Atlantic, fixing her nostalgia on the old house she inhabited as a child and awakening her strong sense of identity in her cultural diaspora.Returning to Boston in her late years, which is adjacent to one of her childhood homes,Bishop attempts to reconstruct her imagined home in the literary landscape of a dislocated geography. In addition, she reinscribes the aesthetics of home loss in the style of her late poems. In this double bind characterized by home-searching,the meaning of home in Bishop's poetry has been enriched.A deeply ironic and ambivalent poetics of home emerge.
