During 2014,two locations of bas-reliefs on precipices were discovered in Gu’ergou Village of Gu’ergou Town,Lixian County,Aba Prefecture. The No.1 location includes 9 niches, which were excavated on an irregular pyramid-shape natural rock. They can be preliminarily dated to the Tang-Song period. The statues in this location were clearly Hanstyle. It should be emphasized that the girdling of the pedestals in No.2,5,7 and 9 niches were made to cylindrical, which were different from the contemporaneous statues in adjacent areas. It is possible that this type of girdling was a local element of Buddhist statues in this region. As the earliest bas-relief on precipices in Zagu’nao River valleys, the discovery of the No.1 location provides important data to study the introduction of Buddhism, art of Buddhist statues and cultural interaction in the Upper Min River regions.
