Karl Polanyi’s Search for Freedom in a Complex Society Claus Thomasberger and Michael Brie

本文从《大转型》的最后一章和相关的理论背景入手,从三个角度讨论了波兰尼关于复杂社会里的自由问题的探索。首先,在批判自由主义自由概念的乌托邦性的同时,波兰尼指出了全局观(overview)对于自由且负责任的决定的必要性。其次,波兰尼明确区分了反向运动的载具和反向运动自身,在此基础上说明了自由的实现与"作为整体的社会"的内在关联。在第三部分,本文分析了当下的自由所面临的威胁,强调了21世纪的自由的实现需要社会转型与全局观的扩展。

Starting from the last chapter of The Great Transformation and related theoretical background,this article discusses Polanyi’s search for freedom in a complex society from three aspects.First,while criticizing the utopian character of the liberal concept of freedom,Polanyi points out the necessity of the overview to free and responsible decisions.Secondly,by clearly distinguishing the vehicle of the countermovement from the countermovement itself,Polanyi illustrates the inner relationship between the realization of freedom and the"society as a whole".In the third part,this article analyzes the current threats to freedom,and emphasizes that the realization of freedom in the 21 st century requires social transformation and the expansion of overview.
