This paper classifies the spatial index techniques according to their regions whether relate to the character of spatial object's distributing or not, and introduces the basic idea of them. The basic thought and some important methods of the layer-grid spatial index is discussed in detail. Then, the paper introduces its realization in the system of SircGIS.NET.
