In China,institutes of physical education play an important role in training of physical education teachers with a holistic approach emphasizing physical,moral and intellectual aspects.The objectives and teaching patterns of the institutes must meet the needs of a modern society.The reforms and development of physical education in elementary and secondary schools in the 21st century are necessary.After examining the current goals,objectives,teaching methods and curriculum,the authors observed various aspects of reform which are currently taking place in the elementary and secondary schools physical education programs in China.
