Though excluded from church all her life, Emily Dickinson has always attempted to establish her own God and to pursue the divine without Jesus Christ. By citing the sacramental words in Christian doctrines, Dickinson satirizes the meaninless sacraments in the churches and radically subverts the traditional Christian sacraments by going out of the churches to seek the divine in nature and the poet's self, and finally ascertains her unique religious faith in the immortal sacraments created in her own poems. Therefore, the sacramental images in Dickinson's reveal her rebellious spirit against the religious tradition and her unique pursuit of religious faith.
