AbstractThis paper is a sequel to the survey undertaken by a team of 8 university professors and associate professors from five institutions. The report shows that foreign language graduates in the next century are expected to have a higher ethical standard, better language proficiency, greater adaptability and wider general knowledge. As current foreign language education with its inadequacies and weaknesses is not able to meet such a challenge, university leaders and teachers should update their views on foreign language education, pay more attention to training graduates of the ‘composite type’, improve their syllabus and reform teaching both in content and methodology.
