Abstract Relevance Theory(RT) which came into being in 1986 is of both pragmatic and cognitive nature.By applying this theory,the present paper argues that mental activities of humans are governed by the principle of relevance and that the efficiency of central processing,ranging from information selection,processing,storage,to output,is attributable to the operation of this principle.In the light of the theory,a reasonable interpretation is available for some externally observable features of mind,such as attentional selectivity,informational decay,and resources allocation.Also presented here is an interesting comparison,from the perspective of relevance,between human mind and the computer.
