Abstract This paper discusses the possible reasons for different kinds of “inappropriate greetings” with Chinese learners and postulates strategic repair on pedagogic considerations.covering both verbal and non verbal actions,we probes the different expressions between Chinese and English greetings on three layers:wording,contents and pragmetic principles,and the possible causes for both pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic failures in a specific way.The teaching application is elucidated in the end.
