This paper presents a condensed account of the several ontological aspects of implicatives,serving as the beginning of a series of studies concerned.It consists of 7 sections.The first section is a very short introduction.Section Two traces back the history in which the phenomenon of implied meaning applied in language use has been studied,pointing out that the study of the ontological aspects of implicatives is a new development of such studies.Section 3 studies the origins and nature of implicatives.presenting two new concepts in relation to the ontological study of implicatives:implicationality and implicationalizaation.Section 4 studies implicatives from the genetic point of view while the fifth section explores the presentation forms of implicatives.Section 6 deals with the control of implicative phenomena in the process of constructing a discourse.The last section lists three points concerning the theoretical and practical signlficance of such studies,bringing forth the conclusion that the ontological study of implicatives,due to its theoretical and practical characteristic,is by no means ornaments and luxuries placed in the linguists' palace of theory,nor does it become an epiphenomenon in linguistic studies.
