论汉语新词的英译

On the Translation of Chinese Neologisms into English

改革开放以来,汉语中涌现了大量新词。如何将新词译成准确、地道的英语,使国际社会对中国的国情和发展有及时、正确、客观的了解,是翻译工作的重要任务。文章结合大量实例分析了汉语新词的来源,提出了八种汉语新词英译的方法,指出了目前汉语新词翻译中存在的问题。

A large number of new Chinese neologisms have sprung up since China's reform and opening-up drive. It is of vital importance to translate these neologisms into English faithfully and idiomatically so as to help the international community gain a timely and objective understanding of the epoch-making development in China and extend her influence on the outside world. With many examples of translation, the paper analyzes the resources of neologisms and puts forward eight methods of translating Chinese neologisms; meanwhile it points out the problems in the translations of neologisms at present.
