摘要
本文从《好兵》所刻画的一位“愚蠢”的绅士形象入手 ,回顾英国历史中绅士观念的变迁过程 ,着重探讨古老的重秩序、重责任的观念是如何随着工业化进程而耗散殆尽 ,并被重实用、轻人情的观念取而代之。在此基础上 ,本文进一步分析了小说作者所捕捉到的社会情感结构的变化 ,以及作者在恢复骑士理想问题上的矛盾心态。
By studying the portrait of a ″stupid″ gentleman as depicted in Ford Maddox Ford's novel The Good Solder (1915), this paper seeks to examine the change of the notion of an English gentleman, whose original soul of feudal order and honor kept fading out against the background of the Industrial Revolution, thus causing a change in the structures of feelings of the English society and the author's complicated mentality in this social process of changes.
