This paper is about the influence, upon British Romantic poetry, of Greek and Roman myths which were introduced to the British readers before Romanticism appeared in Britain. The Romantics who tried to seek an ideal world found it hard to obtain, and thus they had to get comfort by indulging themselves in the Greek and Roman gods. At the same time, by turning to myths, they intended to make their writings extraordinary and revolutionary. What's more, myths have added to the charm of Romantic writings which, in turn, have helped myths reach more readers in the modern world.
