A Brief Biography of Gu Qiyuan

顾起元字太初，又作■初或邻初，晚号■园居士，南京江宁府人．生于明世宗嘉靖四十年，万历二十六年进士，历官国子监祭酒、吏部左侍郎，卒于明思宗崇祯元年，享年６４岁，谥文庄．他任职的是北京太学，而非南京国子监．一生著述甚丰，广泛涉及经学、史学、金石、诸子、诗文等各个领域．

Gu Qiyuan, the author of Kezuozhuiyu, styled himself Taichu and named Dunyuanjushi (Lay Buddhist) in his later years. He was born in Jiangning County, Nanjing, in 1565 and died in 1628. He held a post in the Beijing Imperial College. He wrote many articles in his life, the content of which involves Confucian classics, history, poetry, etc.
