Palazzolo in a rare paper on this subject in 1989, employed LQR (linear quadratic regulator) to attenuate the transient response of the easily disturbed rotor supported on the squirrel cage bearing (similar to SFDB), in which control forces are applied more readily than in CSFDB. It can reduce the peak disturbance to 1/3 within 2 seconds. But such a reduction is not good enough for a high-speed rotor. We now present an LQR-SS (SS-specific stability) method that can practically completely suppress the peak disturbance within 0.4 seconds. The performance index for minimizing the vibration of system is proposed.
