Newman on Relationship between Teaching and Research in the University

John Henry Newman had made quite a few important remarks about higher education,esp.when it comes to the relationship between teaching and research in the university.According to Newman,teaching is the sole function of the university.This idea is based on Newman's conception of the relationship between knowledge and education,scope of university knowledge as well as ways of using knowledge.Undoubtedly,all these concepts also derived from the starting point of Newman's philosophy of higher education,i.e.his ideas on the nature of the university.
