On C-E Translation of Tour Commentaries

本文以广东名胜陈家祠导游词英译为例,从德国功能派翻译理论角度探讨导游词翻译的问题。通过理论探讨和实践分析,作者论证了导游词的两大英译原则即“以游客为出发点”和“以传播中国文化为取向”,只有在该原则指导下的导游词译本方能使涉外导游真正成为“友谊的使节,文化的传播者”。

The present paper attempts to apply the Functional Theories of Translation in the analysis of translations of tour commentaries, referring to the English translations of the tour commentaries of the Chen Clan Temple as a case of example. Two major principles are then proposed for C-E translation of tour commentaries ： the principle of being tourist-oriented and that of promoting Chinese culture. It is then argued that these principles can serve as important guidelines for interpreters as＂ envoys of friendship and disseminators of culture＂.
