The image of Ah Lan, the major woman character of The Good Earth by Peal. S. Buck is analysed, from the feminist perspective. From the cultural perspective Buck＇s concern about traditional Chinese women are revealed. In her works, Buck explores the questions concerning the fate, social status and self-value of Chinese women and shows her profound sympathy for them. She vigorously attacks the powerful masculinism--oriented social concept prevailing then, enthusiastically eulogizes women and thus pushes forward the development of feminism at that time and afterwards.
