Thoughts on the Responsibilities and Development Niches of Subject Librarians

作者认为,学科馆员的工作职责是随着社会进步而不断扩展的;各个大学图书馆学科馆员的工作职责都带有自己的特殊性,受到校情、馆情等多种条件的制约;学科馆员的发展定位应该是学科文献信息专家,而不是学科专家;研究型大学图书馆和教学研究型大学图书馆应当把培养学科文献信息专家作为人才培养的重要内容。

This article mainly discusses the responsibilities and development niches of subject librarians. There are some problems which have to be clarified in the research of subject librarian system, such as whether their responsibilities are unchangeable, whether the responsibilities of subject librarian in each university are completely the same, and whether the development niche of subject librarians should be subject specialists or subject information specialists and so on. The author＇s views are that the responsibilities of the subject librarians should be expanded along with the development of the society. Responsibilities of subject librarian in each university have their own specific characteristics, which are restricted by the conditions of the universities and libraries. The role of subject librarians should be the subject information specialists instead of the subject specialists. It should be an important work to groom the subject information specialists in the research universities and teaching-cum-research university libraries.
