On the Mock-Heroic Style in Absalom, Absalom!

《押沙龙,押沙龙!》中英雄形象的变身富有隐喻色彩。单枪匹马超人型的传统英雄被解说为毫无意义的戏谑英雄。这种英雄主义带来的怀旧与怨愤,导致了典型的未老先衰症。对南方英雄主义的祭杀,源于福克纳对现代生命潜在矛盾的危机意识。

In Absalom, Absaloml, the southern Sutpenian ideal of heroism is under a mock-heroic style. This paper tries to make an analysis of the evolution of heroism to the mock style from three parts： the organization of plot, the narrative strategies and the significance of this style： the influence of mock heroism upon the reality of the South since the American civil war and in the future. In this sense, the epic tale of Thomas Sutpen is of an allegory that explains the premature senility of the age where people suffer from that distorted, pity-lacking heroism.
