抵制与主体性不可相提并论、混为一谈。非洲、加勒比、印度的后殖民小说家及其作品中的人物抵制西方殖民者及其文化的行为能力并不能体现他们的主体性。后殖民小说中殖民地本土人接受或追求西方教育的行为是他们复制模仿西方文化的行为,同时也是他们主体性乏弱的表现,而后殖民小说的另一普遍性主题"腐败"则是殖民地本土人主体性乏弱的结果。
Resistance cannot be regarded as agency. That African, Caribbean and Indian postcolonial novelists and the characters in their stories resist Western colonizers and Western cultures is not the indication of the indigenous agency. In the postcolonial novel, the colonized natives accepting and seeking for Western education demonstrate their mimicry of Western culture, indicating the weakness of their agency. Another common theme of corruption of the postcolonial novel is the result of the weakness of the colonized natives＇ agency.
