摘要
《纯真年代》是美国著名作家伊迪丝·华顿最优秀的作品之一,以19世纪70年代后期至20世纪初的纽约为背景揭示了三个人之间的爱情纠葛。该小说虽然发表于从现实主义到现代主义的转变时期,但却具有鲜明的现代文学特征,包括精神困境、传统观念毁灭、绝望情绪、异化等。目前国内学术界较多地关注其中的传统习俗、女性意识、悲剧性等主题特征,但很少探讨它主题的现代性特性。现代文学的主旨之一是异化,本论文旨在从异化的表现形式来探讨该作品的现代特征。
The Age of Innocence is one of the best works written by American novelist Edith Wharton, which takes the late 1870s and the first 1900s New York as its background, revealing the love imbroglio between three persons. Although published in a turning period from realism to modernism, this novel has some distinct features of modern literature, including mental dilemma, destruction of traditional value, despair, alienation and so on. So far, Chinese scholars have paid much attention to such themes as traditional custom, feminism and tragedy in the novel, while few scholars study its modern features. Alienation is one of the subjects of modernism and this paper aims at discussing its modern features from the respect of alienation.
