This experiment was conducted to study the effect of baled total mixed ration (TMR)supplemented with sodium diacetate on performance and digestive characteristics of dairy cows.Thirty Holstein cows with similar milk yieds, fetal times and day in milk were used in a complete randomized design. All the cows were divided into three groups of 10 cows, which were separate ingredients group (SI),baled total mixed ration group (bTMR),and baled total mixed ration supplemented with sodium diacetate group(SDA).The results showed that group fed baled total mixed ration increased the dry matter intake, apparent digestibility of crude protein and fat (P 〈 0.01 )significantly, and enhanced the milk production ,4 % FCM yields, the apparent digestibility of dry matter and organic matter (P 〉 0.05),compared with the SI group. FCM yields, milk fat percentage and yieds in group fed the diet of baled total mixed ration supplemented with sodium diacetate was higher than those in the other two treatments (P 〈 0.01 ) ,and the lactose level was higher than SI group (P 〈 0.05 ), its apparent digestibility of nutrients of crude fat and crude protein were also increased significantly (P 〈 0.01 ).It indicated that the baled total mixed ration could increase milk performance and the nutrient apparent digestibility of dairy cows, compared with the control group, and the baled total mixed ration supplemented with sodium diacetate could increase milk fat and yields of dairy cows significantly(P 〈 0.01 ).
