One New Framework of Study:Application of Urban Typo-morphology to China

针对目前西方形态类型学理论在中国的应用直接照搬西方研究方法的状况,提出一个针对中国城市的新的研究框架,该研究框架以西方形态类型学理论为基础,适应中国城市的形态构成特点,可被用于指导中国城市设计,设计控制和城市管理。

Chinese and foreign scholars＇ work on the application of the Western urban morphology theory and typology theory in China hitherto are either replications of Conzenian methods or based on insufficient under- standing of Italian typology. This paper proposes a new framework consisting of seven city elements for the typomorphological study of Chinese cities with consider- ation of the specificity of the Chinese context, in order to sustain the cultural identity of Chinese traditional cities and create quality urban spaces. The paper argues that the new framework can be applied to various traditional Chinese cities and benefits urban design practice, de- sign control and management.
