Scholars are inclined to approach Sylvia Plath's 'Three Women' from the perspective of feminism and regard it as a typical work about the poet's awareness of female selfhood and motherhood. By comparing motherhood experience described in this poem with Plath's own understanding of writing, this paper points out that on top of motherhood concerns, this poem implicitly expresses Plath's self-identification as a poet, her anxiety over other poets' influence and her denunciation of social environment for the failure of imagination.
