The immunological mechanism of Qufeng Qingfei Oral Liquid(QQOL) in treating wind-heat type throat itching and cough was explored in this study. Five types of anti-serum (AS) of rats,i.e, AS of normal rats, AS of rats administrated with high and low dosages of QQOL(AS1,AS2),AS of model rats (AS3) and AS of rats administrated with cyclophosphamide, were prepared first. The effects of QQOL on passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) of normal rats injected with various types of AS, on PCA of rats in the treatment and control groups injected with AS3 and on the indirect release of histamine of celiac mastocyte were observed. The results showed that:(1) the absorption value of skin graft infusion of normal rats injected with AS1 and AS2 was lowered markedly(P< 0.01 or P< 0.001 ) as compared with that of rats injected with AS3;(2) After injection of AS3,the absorption value of rats in the treatment groups (with high and low dosages of QQOL respectively) was also lowered markedly (P< 0.05 ) as compared with that in the normal group;(3)Indirect release of histamine of celiac mastocyte was inhibited in rats sensitized by Radix Trichosanthis (P< 0.01 ) as compared with that in the control group. It is suggested that QQOL possesses an antagonistic effect on Type I allergy and this will supply a certain immunopharmacological basis for the treatment of wind-heat type throat itching and cough.
