摘要
The character ‘wu’(乌) in one of the leftover poems ‘Jiao Jiao Ming Wu’among the Chu bamboo strips is a phonetic variant of ‘yi’(鷖),which means a type of bird relevant to phoenix. In this poem,‘yi’was an analogy for gentleman and this analogy was related to worship of phoenix.‘Jiao Jiao Ming Wu’was created by Chu people under the influence of Shijing, especially poems in ‘Ya’(encomia) section.
