摘要华盛顿·欧文是19世纪美国著名的浪漫主义散文大家。其《见闻札记》开现代短篇小说之先河,是美国青少年文学的第一部力作。《睡谷的传说》是其中最具代表性的小说之一。文章从小说中环境与人物的描写入手,深入评析探讨了华盛顿·欧文对理想社会的向往及对美国当时现实社会的批判。 Washington Irving was the great American romantic essayist in the 19th century.The Sketch Book is the first great American adolescent literature which created the beginning of modern short stories.The Legend of Sleep Hollow is one of the most representative novels.This paper tries to reflect Washington Irving＇s yearning for ideal world and criticism of real society through analyzing environment and character in the text.
