Toward a Critical Thinking-oriented Curriculum for English Majors

未来5至10年,中国高校的改革和发展主题之一将是大力提高人才培养质量,而衡量高校人才培养质量的一个重要指标就是思辨能力培养。英语专业要摆脱目前在大学学科体系中的弱势地位,提高毕业生的就业竞争力,就必须以培养学生思辨能力为导向,全面推进培养目标、培养模式、课程设置、教学方法、测试方法、教材编写和师资发展等方面的改革,在新一轮的高校教学改革中走在其他学科前列,为本专业的可持续发展注入强大动力。

Enhancing the quality of teaching will become one of the key themes of the reform and development of Chinese higher education in the coming 5 to 10 years. And one of the most impor- tant indicators of the quality of teaching is critical thinking training. In order to strengthen their posi- tion among other disciplines in the university and to improve the competitive edge of the English majors in the job market, the English departments ought to carry out an all-round critical thinking-oriented reform in educational objectives, curricu- lum, teaching methods, assessment, teaching mate- rials designing and teacher development. This will put the English departments in an advantageous position in universities and ensure their sustainable development.
