A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE YELLOW RIVER’S MAIN STREAM BASIN IN NINGXIA

流域是指河流的集水区,它是地表分水线包围的区域。流域及其管理,已经引起世界各国决策者的极大关注(K.W.Easter et al,1986)。本世纪,世界各地进行了许多流域开发工作,田纳西流域开发便是流域开发成功的典范。我国广泛开展了大小流域的整治,但对于大河流的综合开发,虽有一些学者作过理论研究(张思平等,1989;张文合,

The basin development is in the ascendent of the world today. The basin developmentof arid land, which regards the utilization of water and land resources as its main contents,plays a very important role in the economic development and the environmentaloptimization in arid land. The paper, through a case study of the development of the Yel-low River's main stream in NingXia, tried to approach the general rules of the basin devel-opment of the arid land. Study area in this paper was situated on the eastern edge of aridland of China, across which the Yellow River cut, and has following main characteristics inresouces and environment: (1) this area is influenced both by the eastern Asian monsoon and by west windcurrent, (2)ecological conditions are very poor, (3)water and land resources are abundant, (4)energy resources are very abundant. According to these characteristics, we advance a strategy of the development of the Yel-ow River's main stream in Ningxia, The strategy includes following main contents: (1) regarding the utilization of water and land resources as its main content, setting upa beneficial oasis agro-ecological system, stimulating the development of a oasis agricul-ture. (2) energy industry as its leading industry, promotes development of other industries. (3) the Yellow River is its developmental axis, Yinchuan and other cities are thegrowth poles. (4) Through the basin development, the natural envir onment of this region is op-timized. The basin development of arid lands, thus, has a significant influence on the integrateddevelopment, especially the harmonization of population, resources, environment and eco-nomic development of arid land.
