Objective To evaluate the relationship between comorbidity and cognitive function in the elderly. Methods The data from 160 military retired cadres aged 65 years old and move were analyzed in the 2010 heath interview survey. The prevalence of chronic diseases was obtained.Cognitive function was assessed by the mini-mental state examination(MMSE).Results 50.6% of the elderly had two to four types of diseases, and 36.3% had five or more diseases. The prevalence of cognitive impairment was 25.6%.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that MMSE score was negatively correlated with age,the number of disease, stroke, hypertension, heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Those with more medical diseases(five or more)had lower cognitive functions. Conclusion In elderly population, the prevalence of comorbidty was high.Comorbidity and the accompanied diseases were the risk factors of cognitive function impairment in the elderly.
