An Analysis of Gao Shiqian’s Family History from Gao Yu’s Epitaph

根据新出资料《唐高昱墓志》,结合其他各类文献,可以较为清晰地勾勒出唐初名臣高士廉家族从北朝到唐初的兴衰历程。高士廉家族在北齐时为皇族,高士廉之父在隋朝任职,入唐之后高士廉得到唐太宗的重用,从而再次完成了家族的辉煌。高家在唐高宗时代遭受的打击,仕途急转直下。随着政治高层的斗争,高氏家族也上演了惨烈的家庭悲剧。高氏家族的兴盛衰落,都与当时的政治形势有着密切联系,而家族的幸与不幸也就变得无从把握。

Gao Yu＇s epitaph, together with other literature, provides a clear picture of the family history of the famous minister Gao Shilian from the Northern Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty. The Gaos were royal family in the Northern Qi Dynasty and Gao Shiqian was appointed to important positions by Emperor Tangtalzong. However, the family went through a severe blow in the reign of Emperor Tanggaozong and their life changed dramatically. The rise and fall of the family is closely related to the political situation and is not up to anybody.
