As a fictional work concerned with the JFK assassination,Don DeLillo's Libra is an exemplary text of histriographic metafiction. While incorporating historical personages and events in the reconstruction of history, the novel reveals its fictional nature by explicit self-reflexivity.Libra revisits and rewrites the historical trauma in the American memory, but paradoxically blurs the distinction between history and fiction.Based on Linda Hutcheon's theory of historiographic metafiction, this essay examines the reconstruction of history and refutation of "official truth" in Libra,so as to reveal its engagement with outside political life.
