The Selected Modern Chinese Prose Writings translated in English by Professor Zhang Peiji seems not to be a textbook but in fact it is a perfect theoretic textbook on how to translate from Chinese into English for it provides abundant typical examples to illustrate general principles and skills of translation; it is worth making research on his half_century experience and his careful consideration of translating ; and at the same time the version provides foreign scholars with a short way to understand the Chinese ideological development since the May 4th Movement of 1919.
