This paper introduces coal pitch on its types and properties, which can be divided into low temperature coal pitch, medium temperature coal pitch and high temperature coal pitch. The main discussion is the application of medium temperature coal pitch to be used as base materials of binder, dipping agent, carbon fiber, coating and road asphalt, especially in the aspects of graphite electrode, electrical carbon, anticorroaion material, structural material, fuel oil and road asphalt, which has broad prospects for development.
