Brief discussion on diuretic actions of Paeonia Lactiflora Pall in Zhenwu decoction

真武汤方中认为芍药有利小便的功效,但现代中药学教材中赤芍、白芍并未提及利小便作用,药理学研究也未显示其有利尿作用,其机制有待深入研究。

It is considered in Zhenwu decoction that the peony can promote urination, but this effect is not involved in the modern science of Chinese materia medica. Pharmacology study also does not show its diuretic actions and its mechanism therefore needs to be further studied.
