Acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding is a common disease that results in high mortality. Iden-tification of the bleeding source remains a diagnostic challenge. Most diagnostic modalities are dependent on the doctor＇s skill and experience. Advances in technology have also expanded the scope of options for treat-ment of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding. It is therefore important for the surgeon to be familiar with the different diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and their advantages and disadvantages in order to guide the management of the acute bleeding patient.
