The concept of 'translator-centeredness' has been developed in two directions: one calls attention to the translator's domination over the translating process, the other addresses the translator's responsibility within the framework of translation ethics. This paper argues that within the ethical framework, we ought to hold translators responsible specifically for coordinating and balancing whatever the translational process involves, including extrinsic or 'alien' elements such as the eco-environments for translation, the textual ecologies, and the communal ecologies. Only by taking responsibility for all the 'others' involved in translation as well can translators uphold the twin ideals of eco-holism and eco-reason.
