Letter to Ren An'Was written by Sima Qian in his late years.It reveals the author's general view on life and death as follows:it admits that both life and death are objective natural phenomena,so the author is not against self-protection for security;it emphasizes the independence of personality and individual dignity;it approves sacrifice for one's ideals;it extols the personal spirit of having no regrets'even if having to be killed hundreds of times.
