In November 2012 through May 2013, the Erlitou Archaeological Team of the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences found a rammed-earth wall roughly in north-south orientation (QT) in the wall-enclosed workshop zone of the Erlitou Site, as well as the hard-packed road surfaces distributed along the both sides of the wall. The wall might have been built in Phase II of Erlitou Culture and used down to the early stage of Phase IV of Erlitou Culture. The existence of the roads lasted from Phase Ⅱ to Phase Ⅲ or the early stage of Phase IV of Erlitou Culture. Referring to the previous discoveries, the excavators suggested that this rammed-earth wall would be the west wall of the wall-enclosed handicraft workshop zone or the east wall of another zone to its west, and the roads were the auxiliary facilities of the wall when it was in use.
