本文用关联理论翻译观来分析英译过程中的文化缺省现象的处理。作者在关联理论框架下分析了霍克斯的《红楼梦》英译本中文化缺省现象的处理,提出了具体的翻译策略来弥补文化缺省造成的空白,并阐明在翻译文化缺省现象时,译者应以关联翻译观作为理解原作者意图以及选择翻译策略的指导。

The paper intends to apply relevance theory to the disposal of cultural default in the process of Chinese-English translation. The author mainly examines the disposal of cultural default in David Hawkes＇ translation version of The Story of the Stone within relevance-theoretical framework and proposes several translation strategies to deal with the slots caused by cultural default. Through the study, the author expounds translators should use the relevance theory as a guide in the process of understanding the intention of the author and choosing the correct translation strategy while dealing with cultural default in translation.
