Dynamic spectrum access is a new spectrum sharing model that allows secondary users to access therich spectrum holes in the authorized spectrum bandwidth. DSA technology can alleviate shortage of spectrum prob-lem and improve spectrum efficiency. In this article, we discuss the challenges that DSA faces and point to its direc-tion in the future. Firstly, we give an introduction to the latest spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing. Then we in-vestigate the challenges that prevent DSA from major commercial deployment. We believe that, facing these challen-ges, a new DSA model is essential, in which it is possible for the authorized users to cooperate in DSA and get moreflexible spectrum sharing.
