The connotation of high concept has been misread for a long time. As a directing and creating strategy for film and television proposed by Barry Diller, high concept actually has not any relation with great input, great manu- facture, great marketing, or great market, and has no necessary relation to super star or famous director. On contrary, it attempts to replace stars with ingenious narration, and it pays much attention to planning, creativity, text, and scriptwriter's brilliant strategy. The precise connotation of high concept lies in that they prominently advocate the clearness of the tale, pay high attention to the energy and value of plotting and the market and the potential of the work. So, high concept is a brilliant, ingenious, and efficient directing and creating strategy for film and television.
