The homeostasis of local brain environment is essential for the normal structure and function of neuron and glia cell. The inflammation in brain affects the brain internal environment homeostasis. Various studies have indicated that polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) could reduce the oxidative stress and inflammation in brain tissue, and protect brain function. Recent studies have demonstrated that specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are important anti-inflammatory bioactive molecules, which may be the mechanism foundation of n-3 PUFA' brain protective effects. The anti-inflammatory effects of SPMs in glia cells have attracted lots of attentions in PUFA functional research, so that it has become an important research direction.
