The present study aims to explore how the changes of emotional expressions affect autistic children' s facial expression recognition, by testing 19 autistic children and 21 typically developing children based on the manipulation of the intensity and the speed of their emotional expressions to observe their accuracy and reaction time in their identification of different types of facial expressions. The results show the following: There was difference in the identification of facial expressions between the autistic children and the typically developing children, with the former showing faster identification of happy expressions, and scoring high in their identification of high-intensity and slowly presented facial expressions; and compared with the typically developing children, the autistic children found difficulty in recognizing facial expressions, and were affected by facial stimuli.
