中美双边经贸合作持续扩大、中国对美投资逐步显现后发优势、双边投资协定谈判进展顺利、中美持续深化地方层级的经贸合作、中美在全球经济领域治理上合作日益增多,是新时期中美经贸关系的特点。同时,中美经贸合作也遇到了美国贸易保护主义、中美双方在投资环境存有问题、知识产权上冲突加剧、规则之争等问题。从长远来看,中国改革开放的既定国策是基调、中美政治关系的稳定是前提、中美经济互补性是内生动力、经贸协商机制是发展保障,中美经贸关系发展是主流,冲突只是发展中需要解决的问题。
