The acceleration of the globalization poses a great challenge to the world health system. The medical education is required to take a global perspective and meets the needs of health system reform. Global health education has become the trend of international medical education. Medical professionals should have the "global health competencies" in global level, exploratory level, basic operation level and advanced level. Global health education started late in China, facing with many challenges of lacking awareness, fixed personnel structure, inadequate practitioners with higher health care demands, and inadequate global health practice. Therefore, it is necessary to take the global health perspective, be globalization-oriented, adjust the direction of medical education, optimize the curriculum structure, strengthen the internationally and domestic collaboration, and provide more opportunities of global health practice, all of which should be regarded as the effective ways to carry out the global health education in China.
