摘要
保罗·斯各特(Paul Scott,1920-1978)是20世纪英国文坛非常重要的涉印题材作家,其反映后殖民时期英印复杂关系的小说《眷恋》(Staying On)于1977年获得布克奖。保罗·斯各特一生致力于殖民关系的书写,塑造了大量印度独立前后的人物以及作为殖民者的英国人和作为被殖民者的印度人之间错综复杂的关系。论文运用后殖民视角,从《眷恋》中滞留在印度的英国人与印度人之间的关系以及塔斯克上校之死入手,剖析获得独立之后的印度人,作为曾经的被殖民者,自我意识的觉醒状况和对于殖民者的反抗与报复心理。
Paul Scott, a 20th century significant writer whose most novels are about India. His novel Staying On, reflecting the complicated relationship between India and Britain, was rewarded by Booker Prize in the year 1977. In all his lives, Paul Scott had pulled his efforts to the writing of colonial relations, and had created many typical characters before the colonial times and after it as well as the intricate relations between Indians and British. Focusing on post - colonial perspective, this paper aims to further analyze Indians in post colonial time, their self- consciousness, resistance and revenge through the relationship between the staying - on British and native Indians as well as the death of Captain Tusker.
