The paper uses the case of Cotswolds to analyze the systems of AONB, acceptance into the list, in deciding the range of preserved areas in Britain. It studies the ways of effective preservation control over rural buildings and settlements on an institutional level. Taking Cotswolds as an example of success, it aims to clarify the mechanism and methods of the case, explicating the rationale and connotation in the achievement of preservation goals.
